Planet Academy: From Planning to Launch
Activity 28 MAR 2026

Between March 28 and April 23, 2026, the IEEE SIGHT HU team moved Planet Academy from an early competition idea to a working application, a public project showcase, and a promotional campaign. The work brought together semester planning, collaborative product development, interface design, storytelling, and direct engagement with students.

Setting the Direction - March 28

The first team meeting of the second semester reviewed progress from the previous term and organized the next phase of work. The team discussed how to make effective use of the JSYP proposal, aligned upcoming projects and courses, considered ideas for the Replit Content Challenge, and prepared a clearer plan for the semester’s sessions. The meeting ended with shared priorities and a coordinated path toward implementation.

Building the First MVP - April 10

Working together through Google Meet, the team created the first minimum viable product for Planet Academy as part of the Replit Content Challenge. They shaped the application’s concept and interface in Figma, used Replit and AI prompting to begin the functional build, and styled the experience around IEEE SIGHT HU’s visual identity and its SIGHT superhero character.

The Planet Academy Idea

Planet Academy is an open-source learning platform designed to turn high-quality free resources from across the web into a clear course tailored to each learner. Users explain what they want to learn, why they want to learn it, their current level, and the time they can commit. The platform then organizes suitable material into a structured path that supports steady progress instead of leaving learners to navigate disconnected resources on their own.

The project is intended for learners of different ages and experience levels. Its wider goal is not only to provide information, but to help people learn how to learn in a way that matches their goals, schedules, and preferred formats. A community layer also gives learners opportunities to share work, exchange useful paths, and stay motivated together.

Core Product Features

• Personalized learning paths based on goals, level, and weekly availability.
• Learning-style matching for videos, articles, or a combination of both.
• A personal dashboard for learning streaks, active courses, progress, and preferences.
• Community course sharing and a leaderboard that encourages participation and motivation.

Launch and Project Showcase - April 11–23

IEEE SIGHT launched Planet Academy and prepared a detailed presentation of its purpose, objectives, identity, and main features. The superhero theme positions the platform as a helpful guide that makes learning clearer and less stressful. The team also organized a booth where students could discover the application and see how its personalized approach simplifies the learning journey.

Presenting the Story - April 13

In a follow-up meeting, the team wrote and completed a promotional video introducing Planet Academy. Rather than listing features alone, the script used a relatable student journey to show the frustration of searching through scattered resources and the value of receiving one organized path. The finished video was published on Instagram and drew student attention, questions, and curiosity about the application.

Campus Booth and First Feedback - April 23

Following the planning, MVP development, presentation, and promotional work, IEEE SIGHT held a booth at the Faculty of Engineering at The Hashemite University to officially showcase Planet Academy. Students tried the application, created their own courses, and explored how it finds learning resources in a simple and personalized way. Visitors gave positive feedback, especially about the time saved when searching for resources and the relevance of recommendations based on personal preferences. Professors and IEEE advisors also praised the self-funded initiative and its results.

Project Outcomes

• Converted a competition concept into a working first MVP.
• Established a distinct interface and superhero-led identity.
• Combined personalization, progress tracking, and community learning in one platform.
• Produced a complete promotional story and introduced the application to students.
• Created a foundation the team can continue developing beyond the initial challenge.

Conclusion

Planet Academy demonstrates how a focused team can move from planning to product development and public communication within a short project cycle. By connecting free educational resources with personalized guidance and peer motivation, IEEE SIGHT HU created a practical learning concept designed to help students find direction, remain engaged, and make meaningful progress.
