IEEE SIGHT is the Special Interest Group on Humanitarian Technology. It is a global network of IEEE volunteers who partner with underserved communities and local organizations to use technology for sustainable development.

At The Hashemite University, IEEE SIGHT HU gives students a local path to learn, volunteer, lead activities, and develop technology-focused projects that respond to community needs.

Common questions

Do I need to be an engineering student?

No, the chapter is open to all Hashemite University students. Most members come from engineering and medicine, but anyone passionate about technology for good is welcome.

Does membership cost anything?

Adding SIGHT to an IEEE membership is free. IEEE student membership itself carries a discounted annual fee, which unlocks all the member services listed above.

How much time does it take?

It's flexible. Attending events takes a few hours a month; officers and event organizers typically invest a few hours a week during active periods.

Can I join activities without being an IEEE member?

Yes, most workshops and events are open to everyone. Officer roles and some programs require an active IEEE membership.

How do I become an officer?

A new board is recruited at the start of each academic year. Follow the chapter's social channels or use the contact page, and we'll point you to the application when it opens.
