IEEE SIGHT, the Special Interest Group on Humanitarian Technology, at The Hashemite University is a vibrant, globally aligned student-led community dedicated to leveraging technology for the benefit of humanity. In 2026, we were officially recognized as the Best Affinity Group in the IEEE Jordan Section and celebrated as the Fastest Growing Group in IEEE. We connect passionate STEM students with real-world, human-centered engineering challenges.
Since launching in 2024, SIGHT HU has focused on transforming how the next generation of builders engages with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, with a strong commitment to Quality Education (SDG 4) and Good Health and Well-Being (SDG 3). We believe in shifting the spotlight from the complexity of machines to the well-being of the communities they serve, creating a campus center for innovation where students can bring socially impactful ideas to life.
Year founded: launched at The Hashemite University and quickly grew into a leading student-led humanitarian technology group.
Universities reached: STEM students from twelve universities across Jordan engaged through our campaigns and initiatives.
Regional students: learners across Jordan and the wider Middle East trained through our student-built online courses.
IEEE SIGHT HU operates within the historic framework of the IEEE Hashemite University Student Branch. SIGHT HU's specific journey is a story of rapid innovation led entirely by student volunteers working with no initial funding.
The IEEE Hashemite University Student Branch is established within the Jordan Section and Region 8, laying the foundation for the university's student-led technical communities.
IEEE SIGHT is officially launched at The Hashemite University. The new chapter focuses on establishing its team identity, building strong relationships, and aligning with the global vision of engaging STEM students in humanitarian technology.
Operating with no initial budget, the team relies entirely on volunteer passion and teamwork to build and launch two major initiatives: Think in Blocks, a gamified computer architecture and AI training server inside Minecraft, and Planet Academy, an open-source, AI-driven personalized learning web application developed on Replit.
SIGHT HU expands beyond campus borders. We host local and regional AI and automation courses, registering and training more than 1,000 students across the Middle East, and organize our flagship regional conference, Future Tech/Human Day.
In 2026, SIGHT HU was officially recognized by the IEEE Jordan Section as the Best Affinity Group for its commitment to humanitarian technology, hands-on community projects, and high-impact member engagement.
We were celebrated in our region for welcoming over 50 new IEEE student members. We did this through our creative student projects, our fun social media campaign, and our special SIGHT Superhero character.
