IEEE SIGHT at The Hashemite University conducted a special cybersecurity session on Sunday, May 10, 2026, for 80 students at the Faculty of Engineering. The workshop was organized in collaboration with Dr. Anas Al-Majali from the Computer Engineering Department and presented by Eng. Luai Hussain, a department alumnus working in the cybersecurity field.
The session opened with an introduction to cybersecurity and its importance in protecting business value. Students also explored research opportunities and how to turn engineering projects into research papers that can be published through IEEE, with the potential to develop them further into journal papers.
Dr. Anas Al-Majali discussed paths and opportunities for engineering students who are interested in entering the cybersecurity sector. The conversation connected academic projects, professional development, and the practical steps students can take while building their cybersecurity profile.

The workshop concluded with a Fortinet NSR Exam giveaway for students interested in cybersecurity certifications. Eng. Luai also emphasized the value of professional credentials, practical experience, and continued learning when developing a strong and sustainable cybersecurity career.
The IEEE SIGHT Cybersecurity Workshop gave students a clearer view of the field’s technical roles, research possibilities, and career pathways. By combining expert experience, academic guidance, and a certification opportunity, the session encouraged participants to continue building the skills needed to contribute to the cybersecurity community.
