N8N Online Course: From Fundamentals to Applied Automation

IEEE SIGHT HU organized a 12-session N8N Online Course in collaboration with Tech Mentor and IEEE Computer Society BAU. Delivered virtually by Eng. Mohammad Ismail, the program introduced learners to workflow automation and advanced toward practical API, JavaScript, and AI-agent applications. A total of 1,000 students registered for the course, and 300 students graduated after completing the training.

Course Structure

The program included 30 training hours delivered across four stages: foundational automation concepts, API and webhook workflows, practical n8n development, and applied AI-powered projects. The progressive structure helped learners move from understanding individual nodes and expressions to building complete solutions around real-world use cases.

Week 1: Automation Foundations - April 11, 13, and 15

The opening sessions introduced automation, the difference between manual work, automation, and AI-assisted automation, and the place of n8n alongside tools such as Zapier and Make. Learners explored n8n Cloud, self-hosted deployment with Docker, VPS deployment through EasyPanel, GitHub connections, JSON, trigger nodes, routing nodes, merge and wait nodes, and practical workflow examples. A quiz checked understanding at the end of the first week.

Week 2: APIs, Authentication, and Webhooks - April 18, 20, and 22

The second stage focused on how data moves through workflows. Participants worked with GET, POST, PUT, PATCH, and DELETE requests; path and query parameters; headers; request bodies; loops; and HTTP status codes. They also practiced debugging, reviewed Basic Authentication, header authentication with API keys, and JWT, then connected APIs with webhooks and credentials through hands-on exercises.

Week 3: Expressions, JavaScript, and AI Agents - April 25, 27, and May 2

The third week moved deeper into practical workflow design. Learners studied string, number, date, and array expressions, then used the n8n Code Node to write JavaScript and organize workflow data. The final session of the week introduced AI agents, including their input, output, brain, memory, and tools, as well as tokens, system prompts, user prompts, simple agents, multi-step agents, information extraction, text classification, and summarization chains.

Final Applications - May 11, 16, and 20

The final three sessions turned the course concepts into applied projects. Participants built a workflow that used AI and OCR to extract information from business cards, organized the results into structured fields, and connected n8n to custom APIs. They also explored a WhatsApp restaurant order-management agent and an AI chatbot for a dental clinic website that could answer questions, provide clinic information, and support appointment requests.

Outcomes

• Reached 1,000 registered students across different countries and age groups.
• Graduated 300 students who completed the training program.
• Built a practical foundation in workflow automation, APIs, webhooks, and JavaScript.
• Introduced learners to AI agents, OCR, data extraction, and automated customer support.
• Connected guided instruction with quizzes, exercises, and real-world project applications.

Conclusion

The N8N Online Course created a clear path from first principles to meaningful automation projects. By combining structured instruction with practical experimentation, IEEE SIGHT HU and its partners helped hundreds of graduates develop the confidence to design workflows, connect services, and apply AI to useful problems.
